The chips keep falling around him, but Brodrick Bunkley remains unsigned.
The Eagles' first-round pick is one of six first-round picks that has not yet agreed to a contract. He was selected No. 14, and the three players in front of him - one of which is another defensive tackle, Baltimore's Haloti Ngata, have all been signed. That usually is an indicator of the type of contract he could receive.
Head coach Andy Reid sounded assertive on Sunday about signing Bunkley, but wouldn't go into details about the negotiations.
"I've been hopeful since we started the process," Reid said. "It isn't done yet and I expect it to get done pretty quickly."
Bunkley is entering a crucial week, considering the Eagles play their first preseason game on Aug. 6 against the Oakland Raiders and then have only one full day of practice before they play another preseason game on Aug. 10 against the Cleveland Browns.
Reid wouldn't mention specifics about when Bunkley must arrive in camp in order to play in Sunday's game.
"I don't know that," Reid said. "I haven't even thought about that. It's a day-to-day thing."
Bunkley and Reid have not spoken recently, although Reid joked on Friday that he often hears Bunkley's voice mailbox.
It leaves the negotiations - at least on the outside - exactly where they were last. Bunkley's still not in Lehigh, and that's what Reid cares about.
When asked if he's more confident today than he's been through the entire process, Reid provided a typical Reid answer.
"No, not necessarily."
