Here is the current status of some Eagles...
Ike Reese: GONE. Signed a 4-year deal with my hometown team, the Atlanta Falcons. (At least he's close by.) Had been a mainstay on the Eagles for the last 7 seasons.
Jeremiah Trotter: RE-SIGNED. After some high drama, in which he made a visit to the Kansas City Chiefs and made people gasp, "here we go again.." Trott signed a five-year deal with Eagles. The Axe Man stays.
Corey Simon: FRANCHISED. The Eagles put the franchise-tag on him, which means that they want his fat-a$$, mostly. This past season was a tough season in which he seemed to have his "diva" moments, but he's here for at least one more year, it seems.
Jermane Mayberry: GONE. Signed a 4-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. He had been with the Eagles for the last 9 seasons. The Eagles thought he was starting to physically break down at 31 years-old and the Eagles have stud Shawn Andrews to replace him.
Hugh Douglas: RE-SIGNED. Signed one-year deal with Eagles last Thursday. Now he will continue his rehab from shoulder-surgery, surgery for an injury that he played with all season, and didn't even reveal that he had until after the Super Bowl.
Derrick Burgess: GONE. Signed a 5-year contract with the Oakland Raiders. (Just don't hang out with Randy Moss and C-Wood and you'll be fine.) Because I had never even seen him until 2004 training camp (he was on IR in '03), my main memories of him will be 1.) Me posting that training camp picture of him and his buff arms carrying a t.v. into the Leigh dorm and 2.) His amazing playoffs performance, getting all up in Mike Vick's face and sacking him a couple of times. And who can forget that robotic dance he did after the 2nd Vick sack?
Correll Buckhalter: RE-SIGNED. Signed a 2-year deal w/ Eagles after missing all of '04 with knee tear. Hopefully he and Westy will be tag-team partners again.
Jeff Blake: It's not official yet, but the "experts" are saying that he will be RELEASED since the Eagles just signed QB Mike McMahon to 2-year deal.
Nate Wayne: RELEASED. My first inclination that Wayne was in hot-water is when Jim Johnson called him out last summer and gave Mark Simoneau relative praise. Then, after the Pittsburgh debacle, Wayne was demoted while Simoneau took his spot and Jeremiah Trotter reclaimed the starting middle-linebacker job.
Keith Adams: his status is still up in the air. He seemed to do well in the linebacker rotation for the Eagles in '04. Will the Eagles re-sign him, or let him walk? Stay tuned...
