Cowboys add Wesley Phillips and Dat Nguyen to coaching staff February 14, 2007
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Wesley Phillips, the son of new Cowboys coach Wade Phillips, and former linebacker Dat Nguyen have been added to Dallas' coaching staff.
Wesley Phillips was named an offensive assistant coach, the team said in a posting on its Web site Tuesday night. The 27-year-old was quarterbacks coach at Baylor last season. Nguyen, a former Dallas standout who retired last year because of a neck injury, was named an assistant linebackers coach.
Both new hires also will carry the title of "quality control" coaches.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said inside linebackers coach Vincent Brown, who coached one year for the Cowboys under former head coach Bill Parcells, is leaving the team.
Also Tuesday, the Cowboys interviewed Tennessee wide receivers coach Ray Sherman for the same position in Dallas, the team said.
Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said Sherman is joining the Cowboys.
"I thanked him for his contribution here the last two years with our young receivers and wished him well," Fisher told The Tennessean on Tuesday. "We're going to miss Ray and his family, but as is always the case we look at change as a chance to get better."
