Brian Westbrook: Holdout Continues RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com Wednesday, August 3, 2005
Update: An Eagles source said Monday that all talks with Westbrook have halted, and there is no telling if or when they will resume, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Westbrook will be fined $6,000 for every day of camp he sits out, starting with Monday. The source also said the Eagles offered a signing bonus and average annual salary better than the deals signed in the past by Green Bay's Ahman Green, the New York Giants' Tiki Barber, Tennessee's Travis Henry and Houston's Domanick Davis.
Recommendation: A recent deal that may have caught Westbrook's eye was that of Lamont Jordan, who left the New York Jets to sign with Oakland as a free agent. Jordan received a $7 million signing bonus and a five-year, $27.55 million deal from the Raiders after serving as a backup to Curtis Martin with the Jets. The Eagles have made an offer comparable to that, a source said. We cannot see Westbrook turning down a deal of that magnitude, so keep checking back if you are looking to make Westbrook a second or third running back for your fantasy team.
