Westbrook signs one-year tender with Eagles June 1, 2005 PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook signed a one-year contract on Wednesday to remain with the Philadelphia Eagles through next season.
The versatile Westbrook is coming off a breakout season in which he led the team with 1,515 total yards and was tops among NFL running backs with 73 catches for 703 yards and six touchdowns, despite sitting out the last two regular season games. Westbrook was a key component of the Eagles' trip to the Super Bowl and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the Eagles' 24-21 loss to the Patriots.
He has been seeking a long-term contract but had until June 15 to sign a $1.43 million restricted free agent tender or risk having it reduced.
The Eagles were opening a three-day passing camp on Wednesday and Westbrook was expected to participate.
Westbrook played sparingly as a rookie in 2002, but in 2003 showed he was a dynamic return man and the most explosive member of the three-pronged rushing attack along with Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter. Westbrook became a full-time starter last season after Staley left for free agency and Buckhalter suffered a season-ending knee injury.
In his three-year career, Westbrook has rushed for 1,618 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 119 passes for 1,121 yards and 10 scores.
The Eagles are still without wide receiver Terrell Owens, who is skipping minicamps over a contract dispute, and defensive tackle Corey Simon, who has yet to sign the one-year, $5.13 million franchise tender.

Well this is good. He still may be as good as gone after this season, though. The Eagles basically have two Westbrooks on their roster - the word is that Ryan Moats is a Westbrook clone on the field. Hmmm...

IS A WESTBROOK DEAL IN WORKS?
June 9, 2005 By DAVE SPADARO
Nothing appears imminent, but the feeling on Thursday was positive as the Eagles met with Fletcher Smith, the agent for running back Brian Westbrook. "Of course, he's a new agent (for Westbrook), so they have to have the opportunity to talk about me," said Westbrook. "He has a couple of other players here and he's talked about them in the past. Now they have an opportunity to talk about me and hopefully ... we'll come to an agreement."
RB Brian Westbrook and the Eagles want to stay together, a good sign. Head coach Andy Reid was upbeat when discussing Westbrook's situation, and the fact that both sides seem to want to get a deal done is something Westbrook sees as a good sign.
"I've talked to Coach before I came back (for the passing camp) and he said we can't do anything while I was still out, so I came out. He said we had a better chance of getting it done with me here, so I'm here," said Westbrook. "I definitely want to get it done before training camp. Hopefully, it will. I think the two sides want to get a deal done and hopefully it will get done before training camp."
Westbrook did not attend the team's post-draft mini-camp and there were a lot of questions about whether he would be at the June camp. Westbrook switched agents from Anthony Agnone to Smith, signed his one-year contract, reported for practice on June 1.
Since then, the dialogue between his party and the Eagles has, apparently, been opened and is being conducted with one goal in mind: Sign Westbrook to a long-term deal.
"We're going to work at it and see what we can do with this thing," said Reid. "That's what we're trying to do."

Speaking of Westy, the esteemed ladies of Eddie George are at it again. They even had some junk to say about Westy - Westy. Can you believe this ish? what about Brian Westbrook for the Eagles?
The guy is so cute!!!!!
----------------
He's kind of arrogant and forward in his approach but since I've never responded positively, he has stepped up his aggression.
---------------
lol u know what he is super-short, but he is cute. Was lookin at him on NFL Access earlier.
---------------
He's super short yes arrogant - omg...wouldnt believe some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth but what can u expect...he's 26, rich and a superstar he's cute and super duper extra nice once u put him in his place had a pool party over the weekend, has a nice tongue and a nice wee wee too
-------------------
If this is true (and should I highlight the word "if"?), then add him to the growing list of athletes who have a serious Jekyll&Hyde thing going on. Nothing in his public demeanor - and I mean nothing - would tip off that he was capable of being "arrogant" and letting "unbelievable" stuff fly out of his mouth. He seems quite shy, even.
And then this stuff about his tongue and his "wee wee" - well tip me over with a feather b/c I never thought I'd see the day that there was such stuff printed about the guy!
Or maybe y'all drugged him to get him to act out of himself and show his wee wee?
But while you're at it, keep talking, please. What else would I be surpised about (or not surprised about)?
-----------------
then u dont know him very well!!!! apparently you've never been with him one on one. he is to say the least ... a doozy!
and to the other chick dont hate the playa....hate the game cousin! ur turn might be next.... i'm in israel on business so try ya luck while i'm gone call him up u can have him till mother returns
holding out for a measley 1.4 whateva i shoula been his agent too
------------------
I think he is way too short for the NFL but whateve. I also think he is very arrogant. He is not even all that.

I am almost speechless after reading that. I never thought West was arrogant in a bad way, though all players are arrogant these days. But we do live in a different, more violent world where athletes must be a bit more on their guard. Maybe its that which bring out the arrogance and thingyiness? As far as the wee wee goes, uh i think i let you ladies have that one...........

This is something to think about. I was shocked too at these posts but perhaps I shouldn't be? Like you, I feel that all these pro athletes are arrogant to a certain degree. Some are just arrogant in private, or silently arrogant, lol. And some can play the humble act well. Westbrook just has that sweet, soft-spoken thing going in public but oh well, I guess there is another side... LMAO - o.k. we'll take it.

yea GE i guess we all have our dark sides, eh? You know it! They say all the time that the quiet ones are the ones you have to watch out for - they can be some "moody" folks, lol. I guess this applies to Westy. Hmmm...
